At times of crisis, residents want to know that their government leaders are responsive and in control. League of Minnesota Cities communicators routinely advise member cities on managing crisis messaging tactics. Based on trends the League is seeing and hearing, you’ll learn more about times when a crisis communications response is necessary (it’s more often that you think), when it’s appropriate to be aggressive and when to take step back, the proper role of your organization’s leaders in message delivery, and general navigation tips for communicators. This webinar is designed for any staff responsible for their entity’s communication efforts.

Don Reeder is the League’s Public Affairs Coordinator, and works extensively with cities who need public relations and general communications help. He holds a B.A. in political science and a Master’s degree in public administration, and has years of previous experience in association management, journalism education, writing and editing, marketing, and public policy. He is a frequent presenter at local and national conferences.

Julie Liew is the League’s Communications Manager, leading a talented team of six employees who handle the organization’s wide spectrum of communications and marketing needs. Prior to joining the League in 2022, she spent nine years as the media & communications director for the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities and has also worked as an editor and reporter for publications in Minnesota and New York. Liew earned a B.S. in mass communication from Bemidji State University.
